DESCRIPTION:You must be in 7th grade or above to take this training \nNote: Times Have Changed \nYou will discover ways to work with younger girls\, organize activities\, and lead songs and games. Learn some of the characteristics of younger children\, how to deal with behavior issues\, and disabilities. \nThis is also a first step to developing the skills you will need to become a counselor in training (CIT) at camps (like Camp Tall Trees) or a volunteer in training (VIT) working with other troops. Completion of this training allows you to work toward earning your Program Aide Pin. SUMMARY:YOUR VOICE\, YOUR WORLD JOURNEY
DESCRIPTION:8th Grade and up. \nStarts at Dows Praire Grange at 9:00am \nPick up at Cal Poly Humboldt 4:30pm \nLearn how advocacy can help make the changes you want happen. Develop your passion as we take a deep dive into community issues surrounding poverty. Enhance your understanding of HUMAN RIGHTS. Did you know that Humboldt has a Human Rights Commission? Do you know what it does? Do you know how it does it? \nTeam up with Cal Poly Humboldt social work students and the Humboldt Human Rights Commission to participate in a large poverty simulation. Together we will process\, through the lens of human rights\, the insights we gain from the simulation. \nFinally\, you will be asked for your input on the formation of a Humboldt Teen Human Rights Commission. How should it be formed\, how should it operate\, how would the teen commissioners be appointed\, what issues would likely engage a teen commission\, how would issues be selected? Be part of the process!! \nGIRL SCOUTS ONLY: We will begin the day at 9:00am at Dow’s Prairie Grange where we will serve breakfast and set the stage for you to satisfy most of the requirements for the Journey Award . To complete the Journey\, you will need to select your passion\, make a plan to advocate for a solution and make the pitch. These steps can be completed on your own\, in your troop or in partnership with other like minded participants. You will be transported to Cal Poly Humboldt. \nPlease register here\, payment can be made online or by cash/check on the day of the event. \n \n
