Greek camp is a seven day six night camp which will explore ancient Greece. Beginning in the 12th century BC thru the 5th century BC, the Greeks developed many ideas that continue to influence us today. These ideas created the foundations of modern Western democracy, politics, architecture, sculpture, scientific thought, theater, literature and philosophy.

Campers will discover Greek Mythology and have a chance to put on some theater at campfire. We will explore some ancient Greek inventions and how the Greeks have contributed to modern mathematics. We also plan to investigate some of the great philosophers such as Plato and how their ideas form the basis of much of today’s justice system.

Learn how to spell your name in Greek and maybe burn it in wood or stamp it in leather. Camp crafts will be based on Greek art including sculpture, decorative pots & leatherwork. Ancient Greece was the birthplace of the Olympic Games so we will investigate some of the philosophy of both the ancient and modern Olympic movements.

This year’s night wide game be the Spartans v the Athenians. If you are an Athenian, you will be attempting to protect the Parthenon Medals from both an eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the thieving Spartan savages.

Other activities will include:

  • Rock Wall
  • Astronomy
  • Archery
  • Climbing and rappelling at Sumeg State Park
  • Hike to Fern Canyon.

Campers may also choose to extend their time at camp by one more night to complete, if they have not done so before, the Legacy Rock Climbing Badge. Click here for more information.
